Stupid Poe...

Trying to make Poe look like he's floating through the air....

Finally got round to animating the octopus...

A very scary hairy day....

I begun by sewing each hair individually....

After completing two layers I was fed up...

For the next billion layers I created one layer of knotted wool sewn on to the head...

The back of the head when complete, it turns out I could leave this area bald as his hair is massive as it is...

The hair reaches the full length of the body and I am too scared to cut it cos It looks so funky so I have tied it back instead...

I think I spent way too much time on the head!

I hate sewing... Took me ages to make the trousers! the rest are just temporarily placed bits of fabric...

All white

Head mould part 1 didn't work, I'm a little weary of plaster apparently and used too much water, all is well though as I have made another which has already set and has two coats of liquid latex which are taking forever to dry in this cold.

So in the mean time I have been coming up with more set ideas like this one where all is white. I will add more items and take a photo for a backdrop. This will be my sky...

A Head

I've made a head!
Currently I am waiting for the mould to dry so that I can build up layers of liquid latex in order to make a  skin like texture; which is how I made the octopus...

Papier Mache House and Poe

I am currently obsessed with Julie Arkell's papier mache dolls and nostalgic collections.
Everything I make will be involved in my animation.

Today...
Charity shop bought plastic doll house covered in papier mache.

Poe armature covered in papier mache and painted with black ink.

Matt's Birthday Present

When I have no money I am motivated to make something special for someone's birthday...

My first attempt at armature making

The first (little one) took about 5 hours, the second about 20 minutes after the workshop guy helped me break down a rather complex tutorial.

The second (taller) one is a million times more practical :P

College 8th day of October 2010

Into my second college day of year 3. 

Its great that I can now get on and make some 3D bits for my sets, here's what I've done so far...

Entomologists - needs a chair and a little busy man working away.

Apothecary - Needs a lot of work, will be leaving surround black though to give it that Dogville look. 

Fairground - Not too sure about this at all, I love the circus and fairgrounds, I think that was the key

factor in deciding to make one, now I'm not so sure it's gonna fit in with the rest, I may have to tone down the colour a little to get back on track with the Burtonesque   

Poes Room - Doesnt need much work, although I might actually make the bed instead of this hideous cardboard cut out, it all depends on my photoshop skills...

The Church - I came across a magazine article in the week about a puppetry duo who make their sets and puppets from bizarre found objects, in one picture they had used an old suitcase which looked so Burtonesque that I had to have it! The closest I got to an old suitcase was this water stained make up bag that turned out to be the perfect size! I think I need a bigger cross though and one that isn't Celtic.

Now time for some computer-manipulation-magic...

Finally I've drawn a whale worthy of a post!!!

He's soo beautiful! But I have bouts of Bathophobia so I'll probably never get to see one up close :(

Circus Animals

Inspired by my new favourite book 'Altered Art Circus!'

What I see....

Poe is making me see everything in miniature! I can't help but look at the most random of objects and turn it into an apothecary/entomologists/church/town square.... the list goes on....

All these items were bought at Charity shops and car boot sales over the past week...

A barbie shelf... I see an apothecary (originally turquoise; I added the brown oil paint to give it this Bioshock look)

Battered old wooden pencil sharpeners.... I see a carousel 

Insects in resin... I see entomologists

Plastic animals.... I see circus 

Bell, candle holders, cross, metal plates and glass box... I see a church

Marble and metal ornament... I see a fountain

One day all these random items will be part of a movie set, today they are a-load-of-crap-taking-up-too-much-space!
